چکیده

Carbon sequestration potential of Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh and Acacia salicina Lindl planted in 1980 was studied at the age of 30 years in the elevation plain areas of Iran. Two station of this plantation in province were selected the sample plots and the diameter at breast height of all trees was measured. At least, there trees from each diameter class were randomly selected and cut and different parts of the trees including, trunks, branches and leaves were separately weighed. The main roots of one tree from each diameter class were also nine collected and weighed. To estimate the man weight of litter per hectare, 40 sample plots of one square meter were randomly chosen and the amount of litter was determined. The percent of organic carbon in leaves and litter was also calculated in the laboratory. The amount of carbon sequestrated in the soil of plantation area was calculated and compared with control. This study showed that the amount of carbon sequestrated by E.camaldulensis in the productive site and poor site was about 8.2 and 1.73 ton hayear , respectively. On the other hand , for Acacia salicina in the poor site of this figure was 2.1 ton/ha in year. The highest the amount of sequestrated carbon in E.camaldulensis was in 30 centimeter diameter class. This figure for Acacia was in 25 centimeter diameter class. The amount of carbon sequestrated in different parts of the tree showed a significant difference at 0.01 also in E.camaldulensis , there was a significant difference in the amount of carbon sequestration between the suitable and poor sites. This study showed that there is a great potential of plantations in Fars province and similar areas of the country. This plantation will maintain suitable green areas and belts and produce wood materials for consumption in several ways. Forever planting trees will lead to the reduction of co2 in atmosphere which reduces the greenhouse effect , a program which is university promoted and partially sponsored by united nations and some industrialized countries . Impact of Planting Eucalyptus Species on Floodwater Spreading: a Case study of Kowsar Aquifer Station, Fasa, Iran

Kowsar Floodwater Spreading, Aquifer Management, Training and Extension Station was established in 1982 on the Gareh Bygone Plain at 1140 m above sea level. The area has an arid climate and is located 190 km southeast of Shiraz, Iran. Thirteen floodwater spreading systems, covering 2445 ha, were designed and constructed during the 1983-2003 period to artificially recharge groundwater. Eucalyptu...

Carbon Storage and Allocation Pattern in Plant Biomass among Different Forest Plantation Stands in Guangdong, China

In order to understand how carbon storage and allocation patterns vary among plantation types, we estimated carbon allocation between aboveand below-ground compartments in four subtropical plantations and a naturally recovered shrubland (as a control). Results indicated that the carbon storage and allocation pattern varied greatly among forest types and was highly dependent on specific traits o...

Carbon sequestration potential in soil and stand of Nitraria schoberi L.

Arid and semi-arid lands cover around one-third of the world's terrestrial expanse and their widespread plantdistributions provide these areas with a high potential for sequestering carbon. Vegetation management for developingshrub or tree species in arid and semi-arid regions is one inexpensive and multi-purpose approach for decreasing CO2.This study assessed the potential of carbon sequestrat...

Potential of Carbon Sequestration of Hammada salicornica Vegetation Type in Desert Areas (Case Study: South Khorasan, Iran)

Climate change due to increasing the level of greenhouse gases including CO2 is the main environmental issue of the world in the new century. One of the effective way for reducing atmospheric CO2 is carbon sequestration by plants and soils. A vast area of Iran has desert condition with special adapted plant species in which can be devoted for carbon sequestration. Hammada salicornica as a shrub...

Investigation of Carbon Sequestration Potential in Four Species Including Atriplex canescens, Haloxylon persicum, Artemisia sieberi and Agropyron desertorum (Case Study: Zarandieh, Saveh, Iran)

Climate changes and global warming are considered as very important challenges of sustainable development. Carbon sequestration is the easiest and cheapest way to reduce the greenhouse gases, especially carbon which constitutes the largest portion of them. In the present study, the potential of carbon sequestration in four plant species of Atriplex canescens, Haloxylon persicum, Artemisia siebe...
